The AP Calc AB exam format
| Section | What's in it | Time | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| Multiple choice | 42 questions | 100 min | 50% |
| Free response | FRQ 1 (9 pts); FRQ 2 (9 pts); FRQ 3 (9 pts); FRQ 4 (9 pts); FRQ 5 (9 pts); FRQ 6 (9 pts) | 90 min | 50% |
How your score is calculated
Multiple choice: right answers ÷ 42 × 50%
Free response: your points ÷ maximum points × that part's weight
Composite = the sum, as a percentage of the maximum. The composite then maps to a 1–5 score.

How many multiple-choice questions can I miss and still get a 5?

No. College Board sets the composite cutoffs for each score after the exam is graded and doesn't publish them. We use estimates based on released scoring worksheets and how generous each exam's score distribution is.
When do AP scores come out?
AP scores are released in early July in the College Board student account. Colleges you chose to send scores to receive them at the same time.
