How to use it
- Enter right answers for English (out of 50), Math (45) and Reading (36).
- If you're taking Science, enter it too (out of 40) to see your STEM score.
- Your composite is the average of English, Math and Reading.
The formula
Composite = (English + Math + Reading) ÷ 3, rounded to the nearest whole number
STEM score = (Math + Science) ÷ 2
Good to know
- There's no penalty for wrong answers — fill in every bubble.
- Some questions in each section are unscored field-test items, so your raw score is slightly smaller than the number of questions.
- Many colleges superscore the ACT, combining your best section scores across test dates.

Is Science still part of the ACT?
Since the 2025 changes Science is optional and no longer counts toward the composite. It still produces a Science score and a STEM score if you take it.
What is a good ACT score?
The national average composite is about 19–20. A 24 is around the top quarter, and 30+ is competitive for selective colleges.
How is the ACT composite rounded?
The average of the section scores is rounded to the nearest whole number, with .5 rounding up.
