How to use it
- Enter each ASU course with its letter grade and credit hours.
- Leave out W, X, Y and other non-graded marks — they don't count in the GPA.
- If your average goes above 4.00 because of A+ grades, the result shows the capped GPA and the uncapped number.
The formula
A+ = 4.33, A = 4.00, A- = 3.67, B+ = 3.33, B = 3.00, B- = 2.67, C+ = 2.33, C = 2.00, D = 1.00, E = 0
GPA = Σ (points × hours) ÷ Σ hours, capped at 4.00
Good to know
- Freshman admission uses a different number: an unweighted GPA in ASU's competency courses, where 3.00 is one of the admission routes and each subject area needs at least 2.00.
- Transfer and graduate programs often recalculate GPA with their own scale, so keep the uncapped number handy.
