How to use it
- Enter your GPA and the scale it's on.
- Read the equivalent on the other scales.
The formula
GPA on new scale = GPA ÷ old maximum × new maximum
Example: 4.2 on a 5.0 scale ÷ 5 × 4 = 3.36 on a 4.0 scale.
Good to know
- Proportional conversion isn't the same as removing weighting. To get a true unweighted GPA, recalculate from letter grades.
- Credential-evaluation services (WES, ECE) use their own country-specific tables for international transcripts.
Questions
What is a 4.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale?
Proportionally, 4.5 out of 5.0 is 3.6 out of 4.0. If it's a weighted GPA, your actual unweighted GPA could be higher or lower depending on which classes were weighted.
How do I convert a 10-point GPA to 4.0?
Proportionally, divide by 10 and multiply by 4: an 8.5 becomes 3.4.
