How to use it
- Enter your GPA on a 4.0 scale.
- Read the approximate percentage and the letter grade it averages to.
The formula
Percentage ≈ interpolated between the College Board's letter-grade bands (3.0 ≈ 84.5%, 3.7 ≈ 91%, 4.0 ≈ 96%)
Good to know
- Several universities publish their own conversion; if you're applying somewhere specific, use theirs.
- A weighted GPA should be converted to unweighted first.
Questions
What percentage is a 3.5 GPA?
About 89–90%, between a B+ and an A-.
Is there an official GPA to percentage formula?
No. Some schools use (GPA ÷ 4) × 100, which gives 87.5% for a 3.5. That's simple but less accurate than converting through letter-grade bands.
