The formula
Semester grade = Q1 × w₁ + Q2 × w₂ + exam × w₃ (weights sum to 100%)
Good to know
- Some schools use 45/45/10 or exempt students with high grades from the exam.
- To find the exam score you need, use the final grade calculator with your quarter average as the current grade.
Questions
How are semester grades calculated?
Most U.S. high schools average the two quarter grades and the semester exam, weighting each quarter 40% and the exam 20%. Check your student handbook for your district's split.
Is the semester grade what goes on my transcript?
Usually yes: transcripts list semester (or final year) grades, not quarters, and GPA is calculated from those.
